Climate actions
LIFE Urban Klima 2050 is considered the largest climate action project in the Basque Country for the next few years and aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% in 2030.
Urban Klima 2050 has set itself the main objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40% in 2030 and by 80% in 2050. It also proposes actions that encompass both adaptation and mitigation, to radically improve the resilience of the Basque Country to climate change.
Urban Klima 2050 will build cross-cutting actions to integrate different resilience tools in cities and towns. It will make the administration an example in the fight against climate change. It will carry out innovative actions, applicable in sectors of interest. The project will also generate knowledge to be incorporated into decision making processes, create participatory processes to co-design solutions with key stakeholders and citizens, and empower citizens to achieve a lasting commitment to the environment.
Urban Klima 2050 will transform the Basque territory by coordinating a total of 40 climate change adaptation projects and actions over the six years of its duration. It will also facilitate the effective deployment of the Basque Country’s Climate Change Strategy.
This project is financed by the European Union’s LIFE programme.
“The consequences of Climate Change are not limited by borders, sectors or levels of administration; successful adaptation strategies must be comprehensive and multistakeholder-oriented, or they will be useless.”
