The NAIMA project will demonstrate that two new generations of highly competitive and secure Na-ion cells are some of the most robust and cost-effective alternatives for current and future Li-based technologies in dedicated storage applications.
The NAIMA project will demonstrate that two new generations of highly competitive and secure Na-ion cells are some of the most cost-effective alternatives for current and future Li-based technologies in dedicated storage applications, today controlled by the Asian industry. Na-ion’s disruptive technology is already backed by a strong European Battery value chain, through its solid commitment to substantial investments in the manufacturing of all components of a battery, preserving the industry’s ownership and strength in EU countries.
Under the project, 6 SIB prototypes will be tested in 3 multi-scale Business Scenarios to provide solid evidence on the competitiveness of the technology in 3 real environments. To this end, the participation of end-users (EDF, GESTAMP, GOLDLINE) will play a crucial role as strict “technology auditors” to assess the feasibility of becoming “potential buyers” of SIB in their business ecosystems. In addition, the “sustainability approach” will be ensured by defining concrete potential second life applications and meeting a high recycling efficiency rate.
The EU is making the transition to a secure, sustainable and competitive energy system, as set out in the EC Energy Union strategy. The increasing penetration of renewable energy sources in the EU energy market goes hand in hand with a high competitiveness of the most consolidated technologies: wind and solar photovoltaic energy.
“A new generation of highly competitive and safe Na-ion cells to displace current and future lithium-based technologies.”
