Alessandro Provaggi
Head of Brussels office
Alessandro joined Zabala as director of the Brussels office in November 2021. He has around 15 years of experience in EU funding, project and innovation management, proposals writing, communication, advocacy and EU affairs. His expertise is mostly in energy, heat decarbonisation, smart cities, energy digitalisation and sustainable financing. He oversees a team of more than 15 people and the Brussels office activities in supporting clients and managing projects.
Prior to Zabala, he led the DHC+ platform, the innovation hub within Euroheat & Power, the European network of district energy, for more than 6 years. In this role he held a double function as head of projects and manager for DHC+ members relations and knowledge activities. As head of projects he developed and managed a growing projects portfolio while working on new proposals. As responsible for the DHC+ activities, he supported around 60 members in their successful involvement in EU projects and led DHC+ advocacy, research and communication work.
Preceding this, Alessandro worked for EUREC as the Coordinator of the European Technology Platform on Renewable Heating and Cooling and he served as project officer for the European Commission’s Directorate in charge of development cooperation focusing on energy, infrastructure and environmental projects.
He is a former Visiting Scholar at Stanford School of Engineering, he studied international relations at Bologna University and Madrid Complutense, he completed a business administration programme at the Solvay School School Economics & Management and a project management course at the Boston University. He speaks English, French, Spanish, Italian and some Dutch.
