Sustainable cities

Europe has decided to invest in cities and has multiplied the number of programmes and calls for proposals where urban challenges have a place. An example of this trend is the way Horizon Europe, the EU’s largest innovation programme, focusing on societal challenges and industrial leadership, has increasingly targeted cities and urban and peri-urban areas and their governance as a space to test solutions in the complexity of real life. Indeed, one of the five European missions is even dedicated to the specific challenges of cities. There are also a multitude of transversal European programmes such as LIFE, Interreg, and more specific ones such as the EUI, which broaden the funding opportunities for urban projects.
