The European project ROMEO (Reliable O&M decision tools and strategies for high LCoE reduction on Offshore wind), led by Iberdrola and with the participation of ZABALA, will try to reduce Operation and Maintenance (O&M) costs in offshore wind farms through the development of advanced monitoring systems and strategies, analysing the real behaviour of the main components of wind turbines (WTG).
ROMEO aims to reduce operation and maintenance costs in offshore wind farms through the development of advanced monitoring strategies and systems and by analysing the actual behaviour of key wind turbine components.
This project will develop an analytical and management platform that will allow the improvement of the decision-making process, facilitating the evolution of the current operation and maintenance (O&M) strategies, based on corrective maintenance of failures and errors, to novel strategies based on the real state and degradation of the components. Such a platform, cantered on the cloud and the Internet of Things, will serve as an advanced analytical ecosystem for fault diagnosis and prognosis models. This new tool will thus enable a better understanding of the real-time behaviour of the main components of wind turbines in operation and their remaining lifetime. In this way, it will be possible to extend their lifetime and reduce their operation and maintenance costs.
The innovative actions developed within the work packages of the ROMEO project will be tested at the Teeside and East Anglia 1 wind farms (UK) and in Wikinger (Germany). In this way, the technologies will be tested under real operating conditions, enabling their validation and ensuring their future applications in other offshore wind farms.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 745625.
“The objective is to develop a platform for the analysis and management of data obtained from offshore wind farms for use in the design of strategies to improve plant operation and maintenance.”
