The NGI EXPLORERS programme will support top EU researchers and entrepreneurs in understanding the different US perspectives, vision, values and technology approaches to enhance the research mindset and catalyse the impact of their disruptive “made in Europe” ideas, “NGI” concepts or product-oriented research activities.
Under the umbrella of the Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative, the project aims to reshape the Internet in the next 10-15 years. This project will enable the top researchers and entrepreneurs in emerging Internet technologies from academia, research and the entrepreneurial world (start-ups and SMEs) in the EU, to gain insight on the American perspective, address technological opportunities and become drivers of change for the next generation of the Internet.
NGI EXPLORERS will design a programme for EU Explorers to immerse themselves in a 3 or 6 month stay in the US, 100% financed. The Programme will launch a total of 3 calls for proposals. The expeditions will be complemented by a portfolio of services such as: NGI’s immersion bootcamp, Mentorships and Oscars. The programme will address the following fields: Artificial Intelligence; Blockchain; Big data; Internet of Things; 5G; Cybersecurity; Cloud/Edge Computing; Interactive Technology; Future Hyper-Connectivity; Human-Centric Internet.
Expected impacts are the enhanced EU-US cooperation on the next generation Internet, a strengthened collaboration and increased synergies between NGI initiatives in Europe and the US, the development of interoperable solutions and joint demonstrators, contributions to standards and the creation of an EU-US ecosystem of top researchers, leading start-ups/SMEs and Internet-related communities collaborating on the evolution of the Internet.

This project has been financed by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme, under grant agreement No. 825183.

“NGI Explorers, the programme designed for the top Internet talents in Europe, willing to go one step further.”
