DAPSI’s objective is to make it significantly easier for citizens to transfer their data from one service provider to another in a simpler and more direct way, in line with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation.
The new data protection regulation has been developed to give individuals better control over their personal data. Switching from one service provider to another involves significant cost and difficulty for users. Data processing service providers must develop interoperable formats that enable data portability as soon as possible. There are therefore major technological challenges in this area that must be addressed to provide a solution and translate the regulation into reality.
DAPSI will foster advanced research in the field of data portability by supporting researchers, SMEs and start-ups or innovators from all over Europe with a 9-month incubation program. During this period, the selected teams will receive financial support (up to 150k€ per team) and a package of services such as coaching and mentoring in the necessary technological and business areas, which will pave the way for them to successfully reach the market with their use cases.
Through 3 calls, the 50 brightest researchers and innovators in Europe will be selected. A total of €5.6M will be allocated to help their solutions reach the market. 35 of them will reach the end of the incubation with an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) with great market potential in the short-medium term.
This project has been financed by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme, under grant agreement No. 871498.
“The GDPR, adopted in 2018, poses new challenges and opportunities for Europe in the use of personal data. DAPSI will support the advancement of solutions in the field of data portability, from the internet's brightest innovators.”
