Our commitment to the SDGs in the Sustainability Report 2021

Sustainability Report 2021

At Zabala Innovation we firmly believe in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and this is reflected in the renewal of our membership of the Global Compact and in our Sustainability Report 2021. Our commitment is based on economic growth through innovation (SDG 9) and the creation of alliances with different entities (SDG 17), always with respect and protection of the environment and human rights (SDG 8).

If you would like to learn more about our commitment to the SDGs, we present below the aspects of these goals that are most closely related to our activity.

Sustainability Report 2021 and SDG 3: Health and Well-being

With the main objective of ensuring the health and well-being (SDG 3) of all the people who work and collaborate with Zabala Innovation, a series of measures were taken to create safer working environments and minimise the risk of contagion in all the company’s activities:

  • Enabling teleworking for the entire workforce.
  • Enabling workspaces to minimise the risk of contagion.
  • Progressive return to the offices.

In addition, 100% of the workforce received occupational health training in 2021.

SDG 5: Gender equality

Zabala Innovation aims to work to build and maintain an egalitarian working environment. To this end, we have an Equality Plan drawn up in a participatory manner among all our professional employees, which includes training and awareness programmes for the entire team.

SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

In the company we focus on the following actions:

  • Fostering innovation and incorporating technological advances to improve and grow.
  • Promoting technological innovation as a lever for transformation towards more sustainable and inclusive business models.
  • Promoting innovation for sustainable development, a sustainable energy transition.

All this led to our participation in more than 60 European R&D&I projects in 2021.

SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth

Zabala Innovation aims to generate a positive impact on the people who interact with the organisation, promoting sustainable growth that offers opportunities for growth and quality working conditions. Therefore, one of its main challenges is to generate and maintain jobs, which includes jobs generated directly and the value provided to its suppliers and customers.

Under this objective, we take care of our relations with our team, with our collaborators (including customers and suppliers), and with society in general, ensuring their well-being and promoting sustainable economic growth.

SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy

At Zabala Innovation we have been working for years to position Europe as a global market leader in energy and transport innovation and the development of sustainable technologies in these areas. In total, we have achieved a return of more than €390 million for our clients with energy projects.

We are also working to reduce the energy consumption of our sites: in 2021 we will change the luminaires at our headquarters in Barcelona to energy-saving LED lights, and our Mutilva site is already equipped with solar panels.

SDG 13: Climate action

Since 2015, we have been implementing an Environmental Action Plan at all locations,. The plan is reviewed and improved every year, and with which we monitor our resource consumption.

In addition, we support our customers in environmental protection: during our more than 36 years of activity, European climate, energy, and environmental projects have been part of our expertise and outstanding successes.

SDG 16: Peace, justice, and strong institutions

From our activity we have reinforced the following commitments:

  • Directly involve and engage in projects to build more peaceful and inclusive societies through the promotion and protection of Human Rights.
  • Ensure respect for Human Rights and work to make inclusive and participatory decisions with our local environment.
  • Promote ethical and responsible behaviour, through our Codes of Ethics and Codes of Conduct.

SDG 17: Partnerships to achieve the goals

Zabala Innovation is committed to partnerships between governments, the private sector, and civil society for transformation and innovation in society and the promotion of the SDGs.

As part of this commitment, in 2021 Zabala Innovation launched our internal call for solidarity projects, in which we support the solidarity work of 19 social organisations.

Don’t hesitate any longer and read our 2021 Sustainability Report carefully.
