About the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan

The European Parliament and Council reached a political agreement on Horizon Europe in April 2019, on the basis of which the Commission has started to prepare the programme’s implementation, including through the strategic planning process. This process, focused in particular on Horizon Europe’s second pillar: ‘Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness’, will develop the first ‘Horizon Europe Strategic Plan (2021-2024)’. The plan will identify major policy drivers, strategic policy priorities, and targeted impacts to be achieved as well as identify missions and European Partnerships. The first ‘Horizon Europe Strategic Plan’ is planned to be endorsed by the next Commission towards the end of 2019, subject to agreement between the European Parliament and Council on the EU’s long-term budget (2021-2027) and its related horizontal provisions.

European Research and Innovation Days

The European Research and Innovation Days are the first annual event of the European Commission policies, bringing together stakeholders to discuss and shape the future landscape of research and innovation. Speakers will include ministers, members of the Commission and the European Parliament, researchers and surprise guests every day.

The aim of this event is to address the next great transition of our economy, society and planet to ensure a sustainable future that guarantees the welfare of citizens. The event will be instrumental in finding research and innovation solutions for this great transition by working through policies, setting the direction, stimulating innovation and generating investment. It will be time for all stakeholders to come together and co-create strategic priorities for the European Commission’s investment in research and innovation.

At the same time, the event aims to mobilise EU citizens and raise awareness of the importance of research and innovation in meeting the challenges facing society. It will include a free exhibition to showcase and celebrate the best that EU research and innovation has to offer.
