CIRCUSOL final event at the European Parliament
The event hosted by the Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Ms Adriana Maldonado will take place next 15 November 2022
Circular Business Models for the Solar Power Industry (hereinafter, CIRCUSOL) will celebrate its final event : “Policy recommendations for a successful solar market in Europe”, with a high-level discussion at the European Parliament next 15 November 2022. The attendees will have the opportunity to learn the insights of the project that led to the setting of a series of policy recommendations that could help in future regulations in the circular economy sector. Among the people invited there are policy makers in European organisations, industry representatives from the photovoltaic and batteries sector and circular economy experts.
The session will be opened by our host, Ms Adriana Maldonado who is member of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection of the European Parliament, followed by the project representatives who will present the results of CIRCUSOL project and a set of policy recommendations. To finalise, representatives from the Directorate General for Environment (DG ENVI), Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW) and Directorate General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) will introduce the debate based on the key takeaways of the previous statement. The session will be moderated by the CIRCUSOL Policy Officer, Ms Sofia Pachini, and it will be held involving all the speakers and the audience present at the venue.
Zabala Innovation Europe, being involved in the management and communication and dissemination working packages, has been very active in the organisation of this event, which will put an end to the technical activities of the project.
CIRCUSOL: where do we come from
CIRCUSOL, a Research and Innovation Action project that has been running from 2018 – 2022, foresaw the consequences of the rapid growth of solar power sector. What is more, with the current geopolitical and energy market situation, the European Union has been forced to tighten up the measures and accelerate the transition towards renewable energies, phasing out the dependence of fossil fuels and third-country energy imports.
Solar power is set to play a vital role for the achievements of the 2030 targets outlined in REPowerEU. However, this will lead to serious resource and waste management challenges that need a solution. This has been the basis of CIRCUSOL, to proof that, following a circular economy strategy, these can be handled in a proactive and future-proof manner. Not only that: a circular approach is bound to create new business opportunities at several stages in the circular value chain of PV: manufacturing, reuse, refurbishment, or recycling.
CIRCUSOL final event: looking into the future
In this session at the European Parliament, CIRCUSOL will propose a series of policy measures extracted from the experience gathered in five demonstrator sites and a prototype of a digital asset database created to facilitate the reuse and recycling activities. The overall topics are the following:
- Waste and recycling
- Circular Economy and Business Models
- Sustainable Product Policy and Ecodesign
- Trade
